Matariki - Celebrate the Maori New Year, Matariki, in Northland!!

From art and indigenous food festivals to tree plantings and celestial navigation tours on land and sea, there's a whole host of events going on throughout the region in June! Matariki is all about celebrating the place where we live and paying respect to the land that we live on. It is celebrated with education, remembrance and the planting of new trees and crops signalling new beginnings. The actual day of Maori New Year is 27th June.

Amazing Cultural Encounter

This exclusive Cultural Encounter is held at the Beachcomber Resort once a week where local Maori, Taiamai Tours welcome groups onto the beaches with traditional warrior chants and haka and the possibility of going out on a traditional waka (canoe.) The event is finished off with a great buffet served in the restaurant upstairs.
